Carrie - Chainsaw Carver

I discovered the art of chainsaw carving at the Wales Woodfest. Inspired by the efforts of 3 women carvers in particular, I bought a chainsaw at the event and am self taught from then on.

I spent 2 years making lots of exotic firewood – and a few owls and other animals that folk wanted to buy and then I turned pro.
My learning curve has been rapid and steep, having taken me to a number of events across the country and in America.

Now I work nearly full time as the resident chainsaw carver at Harrold Country Park, Bedfordshire. From here I complete many private commissions as well as chainsaw sculptures for other Country Parks.

I believe I am one of very few female chainsaw carvers in the UK. I love my work as a ladycarver and my ‘life in the fast chain’. I have sculptures in public spaces across East Anglia and have collaborated with A- level art students in chainsaw work for their course assessments.

I strive to do as much as I can with the chainsaw and finish the sculptures with power tools for smoothing, sanding and putting in intricate features such as eyes, nostrils, etc.
